APC launches ‘Operation Recapture Oyo’ ahead of 2027 gubernatorial elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has officially launched a political initiative tagged “Operation Recapture Oyo”, aimed at reclaiming power from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2027 general elections.

The initiative was unveiled on Tuesday during a strategic meeting of party leaders from the ten local government areas that make up the Oke-Ogun zone. The meeting, held in Igboho—the headquarters of Orelope Local Government Area—was chaired by former Deputy Governor of the state and party leader, Chief Iyiola Oladokun.

Speaking on behalf of other stakeholders, Oladokun expressed deep concern over the state’s decline under the current PDP-led administration. He lamented the degradation of Oyo’s historical identity as a “Pace Setter,” citing growing heaps of refuse, blocked drainage systems, open defecation, and rising cases of kidnapping, particularly in the Oke-Ogun region.

He charged party members to intensify grassroots mobilisation efforts and ensure that every eligible voter secures their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), describing it as a crucial step toward unseating the PDP.

“We have reflected on the reasons we lost this progressive state to the opposition. Now, we are fully prepared to return a truly progressive and development-focused government in 2027,” Oladokun said.

He also encouraged the people to vote massively for the APC and emphasized the need to rally support for the party across all levels of the state.

The meeting also featured renewed calls for political equity, as stakeholders demanded that the Oke-Ogun region be considered in the selection of governorship and senatorial candidates for the 2027 elections.

In a show of solidarity, the APC Peace Advocate Group—comprising former Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Akin Onigbinde, former legislators, and other ex-public office holders—visited the meeting. The group urged aspirants and their followers to maintain peace and decorum in all political engagements leading up to the elections.

Among the prominent figures in attendance were former Minister of Communications, Barr. Adebayo Shittu; former Deputy Governors Adeyemo Alake and Rauf Olaniyan; current and past federal and state lawmakers; former commissioners; party executives; as well as women and youth leaders.

The gathering concluded with a vote of confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, along with a unanimous declaration of support for his re-election bid in 2027.
