With the recent defections within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, all 25 members of the Osun State House of Assembly elected on the PDP platform have declared unwavering loyalty to Governor Ademola Adeleke and the party.
Their declaration comes amid concerns triggered by the resignation of five PDP federal lawmakers from Osun, including Hon. Oluwole Oke (Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency), Senator Francis Fadahunsi (Osun East), Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi (Osun Central), and most recently, Hon. Abimbola Ajilesoro (Ife axis) and Hon. Sanya Ominrin (Ijesa South).
Addressing journalists in Osogbo on Wednesday, Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, dispelled rumours of planned defections among state legislators. He emphasized the unity and commitment of the Assembly members to both the PDP and Governor Adeleke’s administration.
“The 25 Honourable Members of the Osun State House of Assembly elected on the platform of the PDP are united, loyal, and fully committed to the government of Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke and the party that brought us here,” Egbedun stated.
He dismissed the speculation of divisions or crisis within the Assembly, adding, “There is no defection. There is no crisis. The rumours flying around are just that—rumours. We are not in the business of chasing shadows. We are not for sale.”
Egbedun underscored the lawmakers’ grassroots connection, stressing that their loyalty stems from their understanding of the people’s needs and visible support for the governor’s developmental efforts.
“The people of Osun are with this Governor. They’ve seen his work, they feel the impact of his leadership, and they know he is delivering on his promises,” he said.
He also hinted at efforts to persuade the only All Progressives Congress (APC) member in the House to join the PDP, in a bid to further consolidate support for Governor Adeleke ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
Standing alongside the 24 other PDP lawmakers, Egbedun concluded, “We are not just here to defend our mandate; we are here to declare full support for Governor Adeleke’s second term. Come 2026, by God’s grace and the will of the people, we will return him to office to continue the good work he has started.”
