Hon Moshood Mustapha has said his support for the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and other candidates of the party in the 2023 general elections was personal.
Mustapha said this in a meeting with his followers in Ilorin the State capital. They had asked him if he truly campaigned for the former Vice President and candidates of his party in the 2023 general election, as it is being claimed in some quarters.
He said he supported the PDP presidential candidate because the latter once helped him, and his being in the PDP campaign council and travelling across the states in the country for him was a way of paying back his kind gesture toward him.
Mustapha added that when he was the Chief of Staff to former Senate President Bukola Saraki, Atiku helped and also helped his Boss (Saraki). “And whoever once helped Saraki will earn my support and respect forever,” he said.
Kwara All Progressives Congress (APC) has alleged Moshood Mustapha of abandoning the APC to pitch his tent with the PDP and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in last year’s election.
During the campaigns of the 2023 general elections, Saraki and MM were spotted at the airport waiting to take a flight to attend the PDP campaign council.
Also, in a now-viral picture, MM was seen alongside the Kwara PDP leader and former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, at a campaign ground for Atiku Abubakar.
This medium received reports that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar was not the only PDP candidate Hon Moshood Mustapha supported. He was reported to have secretly supported some PDP candidates in Kwara State.
A member of the Kwara State House Assembly from his Alanamu Ward said he didn’t support her, noting that the only support she got was from the Governor.
