The Osun State University (UNIOSUN) has formally admitted 493 students into its part-time degree programmes for the 2026/2027 academic session, with the institution reaffirming its commitment to providing quality and flexible higher education.
Speaking at the matriculation ceremony held on Friday, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Clement Adebooye, described the students’ admission as a testament to their resilience, determination and commitment to academic and personal development.
Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics, Research, Innovation and Partnerships), Prof. Laurence Kehinde, Adebooye said the university would continue to uphold excellence in teaching, research and community service while creating opportunities for lifelong learning.
He noted that the Centre for Part-Time and Advanced Studies had become a critical platform for expanding access to university education, enabling working-class individuals and other learners to pursue degree programmes without compromising academic standards.
According to him, the university has strengthened its digital learning system by providing students with online portals through which they can monitor their academic progress, register courses and access other academic services.
“The university has also commenced the development of a purpose-built Centre for Advanced Studies to provide world-class facilities for teaching, learning and research.
“We encourage you to attend lectures regularly, participate actively in academic activities, complete your assignments promptly and maximise the digital resources available to support your studies,” he said.
The Vice-Chancellor urged the students to embrace hard work, discipline and continuous learning, stressing that academic excellence must be matched with good character and integrity.
He also warned them against engaging in examination malpractice, cultism, cybercrime, drug abuse, certificate forgery, sexual harassment, hooliganism and other forms of misconduct.
“Our regulations are clear, and sanctions for violations are strictly enforced. Therefore, I urge you to uphold the values of honesty, responsibility, discipline and respect for constituted authority throughout your stay in the university.
“The matriculation oath you have taken today is a solemn commitment to obey the university’s rules, pursue knowledge with integrity and remain worthy ambassadors of UNIOSUN,” Adebooye said.
He appreciated parents, guardians, spouses, employers and other supporters of the students, assuring them that the university would continue to provide an enabling environment for academic excellence and character development.
Earlier, the Director of the Centre for Part-Time and Advanced Studies, Prof. Abosede Akanbi, administered the matriculation oath to the newly admitted students.
Akanbi urged them to abide by the university’s rules and regulations and remain focused on the purpose for which they enrolled.
She cautioned the students against cult-related activities, violence and vandalism, urging them to promptly report any security concerns to the university authorities.
She added that any student found violating the matriculation oath or the institution’s regulations would face appropriate disciplinary action, including expulsion.
