First Osogbo-Born Indigene, Lateef Ajibola Emerges NAOSS President

History was made on Tuesday as a native of Osogbo, the Osun State capital, emerged as President of the National Association of Osun State Students (NAOSS) for the first time since the association was established.

Lateef Folajimmi Ajibola, a 300-level student of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) and an indigene of Osogbo from with a mantra “Collaborative Team”, was elected at the NAOSS national election held in Osogbo.

Ajibola’s victory has been widely described as a landmark achievement, marking a significant moment for students from Osogbo who, despite hosting the state capital, had never produced a national president of the association until now.

Announcing the outcome of the election, the Chairman of the National Association of Osun State Students Independent Electoral Commission (NAOSSIEC), Yusuf Adewale Bello, said the exercise was conducted in a peaceful, transparent, and orderly manner.

According to Bello, Ajibola was duly elected in strict compliance with the provisions of the NAOSS constitution, following the conclusion of the voting process.

The emergence of Ajibola is expected to strengthen unity among Osun State students and bring renewed focus to student welfare, inclusive leadership, and developmental advocacy across campuses within and outside the state.

Students and stakeholders have since congratulated the new NAOSS president, expressing optimism that his leadership will usher in a new era of purposeful representation for Osun State students nationwide.
