FG declares Tuesday public holiday in Honour of Late President Muhammadu Buhari

In continuation of the seven-day national mourning declared by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the Federal Government has announced Tuesday, July 15, 2025, as a public holiday to honour the late former President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR.

The declaration was made by the Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, following the approval of President Tinubu.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo described the holiday as a tribute to President Buhari’s distinguished service to the nation, his role in advancing democracy, and his enduring impact on national development.

“President Muhammadu Buhari served Nigeria with unwavering dedication, integrity, and a strong commitment to unity and progress. This public holiday is an opportunity for Nigerians to reflect on his leadership and the principles he stood for,” the Minister said.

He encouraged citizens to honour the former President’s memory by fostering peace, patriotism, and unity—values that defined Buhari’s vision for the country.

As previously announced, national flags are to be flown at half-mast throughout the seven-day mourning period, which began on Sunday, July 13, 2025.

The Federal Government extends its heartfelt condolences to President Buhari’s family, the people of Katsina State, and all Nigerians, praying for the peaceful repose of his soul.
