BREAKING: Former President Muhammadu Buhari Dies at 81

Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, has passed away. The news of his death was confirmed by his media aide, Garba Sheu, in a brief post shared on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter)

Although details surrounding the circumstances of his death remain unclear as of press time, the announcement has sparked an outpouring of tributes from political leaders, citizens, and international figures who recall his decades of service to Nigeria both as a military ruler and a democratically elected president.

Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s Head of State from December 1983 to August 1985 following a military coup, later returned to lead the country as a civilian president from 2015 to 2023. His administration was marked by a strong focus on anti-corruption, national security, and infrastructure development.

Born on December 17, 1942, in Daura, Katsina State, Buhari spent a significant part of his life in public service, beginning with his military career and culminating in two terms as a democratically elected president under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Presidency and family members have yet to release an official statement, but sources close to the family say funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
