Presidential aide Daniel Bwala has suggested that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar may not be destined to become Nigeria’s president, despite multiple attempts.
Speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme aired Monday night, Bwala ruled out the chances of Atiku, along with other opposition figures like Peter Obi and Rotimi Amaechi, defeating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
“In all honesty, I believe it may never have been God’s plan for him [Atiku] to be president,” Bwala stated. “He has done everything possible to attain the position, yet he never succeeded. The 2023 election was his best opportunity, and such a chance may never come again.”
Bwala, who served as the spokesperson for Atiku’s 2023 presidential campaign, joined the Tinubu administration a few months after the election.
Commenting on the newly formed opposition coalition—now operating under the African Democratic Congress (ADC)—Bwala dismissed the group as lacking substance and public appeal.
“This coalition of internally displaced politicians has yet to articulate any credible alternatives—no alternative facts, no alternative policies, no alternative programmes,” he said.
Referencing a recent media appearance by Labour Party’s Peter Obi, Bwala argued that the former Anambra governor has failed to effectively challenge the policies of the Tinubu-led government.
“From what I observed, Obi has not been able to meaningfully counter or discredit the administration’s current policies,” he added.
Bwala also addressed speculation about a potential cabinet shake-up, noting that only President Tinubu can decide which ministers will remain in office.
