Kwara Govt recertifies 12 transport operators, reaffirms commitment to clean, safe motor parks

The Kwara State Government has renewed the operational certificates of 12 private motor parks in Ilorin after they successfully met the state’s requirements on transportation standards and environmental safety.

The recertified transport operators include Ilorin Emirate Transport Service, KASMAG Line, Success Express Transport Service, RASYAU Travel & Tours Ltd, Fayos Motors Transport Service, Okin Motors & Sons Nig. Ltd, Alubarika Decency Motors, Femali (FM) Nig. Ltd, Bekki & Sons Motors, Young Legacy Line, Royal Ryders Super Express, and Laraku Motors.

Presenting the certificates in Ilorin, the Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Aliyu Kora Sabi, said the exercise is part of the government’s broader effort to enforce safety and environmental regulations across the state’s transport sector. He emphasized that the initiative aims to ensure safer travel experiences for passengers and a more organized transport system.

“By certifying these motor parks, we are equipping our communities with safer transport hubs. Today’s recertification is a reminder of our shared responsibility to protect one another and promote road safety. Our roads are essential for livelihoods, but the risks they pose must be mitigated through proactive measures,” Sabi said.

He praised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for prioritizing citizens’ safety and well-being, particularly through the recent rollout of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses designed to ease transportation costs amid economic challenges.

Also present at the event were key stakeholders, including the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security, Alhaji Muyideen Aliyu; SSA on Transportation, Hon. Ibrahim Orire; Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, Alhaji Salau Kabiru Abdullahi; Technical Assistant on Transport, Alhaji Musbau Abubakar; DCP Ladi Suleiman (representing the Commissioner of Police); and AC Salman Surajudeen (representing the NSCDC State Commandant).

Other dignitaries included the Chief Vehicle Inspection Officer, Engr. Ayuba Isiaka; former Director of Transport, Engr. Durotoye Joshua; a representative of the FRSC; as well as top officials and leaders of various transport unions including AIT, NARTO, and TOAN.

Speaking at the event, the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Salau, explained that the recertification followed thorough inspections of transport facilities across Ilorin, noting that the process is ongoing and aimed at enhancing operational standards.

Engr. Michael Bamidele, Director of Transport, disclosed that only 12 out of 49 private motor parks in the state met the criteria for recertification, underscoring the ministry’s commitment to achieving cleaner, safer transport environments.

Speaking on behalf of the certified operators, CEO of KASMAG Line and Chairman of the Association of Independent Transporters, Alhaji Abdulganiyu Omoola, expressed appreciation to the state government and pledged continued support for its safety and development goals.
