Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala has spoken publicly for the first time following the serious injury he sustained during the Club World Cup — a fractured fibula and dislocated ankle that will keep him out of action for several months.
The 22-year-old German international, who has since undergone successful surgery, took to Instagram to thank fans and fellow professionals for their overwhelming support during his recovery.
“Hello everyone. I wanted to say thank you for all the lovely support I got from all of you. It really means a lot to me,” Musiala wrote. “It’s nice to see how the football world comes together in a time like this, and I really appreciate it.”
The incident, which involved a collision with Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, has sparked widespread debate and criticism. However, Musiala was quick to downplay any blame being placed on the Italian shot-stopper.
“The surgery went really well. I’m in good care,” he shared. “And I wanted to say that there’s no one to blame for this. I think situations like this happen. Now I’m just going to use the next period of time to build up my strength and positivity again. I’m looking forward to seeing you guys again.”
Musiala’s composed and gracious response has earned him praise from fans and pundits alike, many lauding his maturity and sportsmanship amid a difficult setback.
