Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has assured communities in the Lafiagi axis of Kwara North of intensified government efforts to tackle criminal gangs responsible for violent crimes in the region.
The governor gave this assurance during a security briefing with leaders of the Lafiagi Descendants’ Development Union (LADDU), led by Dr. Abdullahi Jibril Mohammed Lafiagi. The meeting, held in Ilorin, aimed to update community stakeholders on current security strategies.
Governor AbdulRazaq acknowledged the growing concerns of residents and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to a coordinated, multi-agency response.
This development comes as the Nigerian Army finalizes plans to launch sustained operations targeting forest areas identified as criminal hideouts in parts of Kwara North and South. These efforts will be supported by newly trained forest guards deployed to remote locations.
“These operations are designed to flush out criminal elements from their strongholds and restore peace to the affected communities,” a statement released on Sunday read. “Careful measures are also being put in place to prevent these criminals from relocating to other parts of the state.”
The state government, in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser, is intensifying security interventions in key areas, particularly in Ifelodun, Edu, and Patigi local government areas.
“No one can downplay the genuine concerns of our people,” the statement added. “However, addressing sensitive security issues requires a strategic, well-thought-out approach to ensure long-term success.”
