I’m Misunderstood, Not Rude – Victor Boniface Speaks on Social Media Persona

Super Eagles and Bayer Leverkusen striker, Victor Boniface, has opened up about misconceptions surrounding his personality, stating that many people wrongly perceive him as rude due to his habit of sharing savage memes on social media.

In a recent episode of The Culture League podcast, Boniface clarified that his posts are simply a means of self-expression and not intended to offend anyone.

“People often think I’m rude because of the memes I post,” he said. “But that’s not who I am. I just enjoy expressing myself through humour online. I would never insult anyone unless they cross a line.”

Boniface also highlighted the unique challenges faced by professional footballers, explaining that their reserved lifestyle compared to celebrities in other industries often leads to false assumptions.

“There’s a general misconception that footballers are arrogant or unapproachable because we don’t mix much outside our profession,” he noted. “The public expects us to behave like entertainers, but there are certain things they can do that we simply can’t. When we don’t meet those expectations, people think we’re being rude.”

He added with a smile, “I might come across as calm, but don’t provoke me. Some of us have that craziness hidden inside — but we don’t bring it out unless we’re pushed.”

Boniface’s comments come amid increasing attention on athletes’ conduct online, and his remarks shed light on the gap between public perception and personal reality.
