When news of the arrest of Mr. Musibau Esinrogunjo, a chieftain of the Kwara People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and former aspirant for the Ilorin West Local Government chairmanship, broke on Monday, members of his party and supporters alleged that the Kwara State government was behind his arrest. They claimed the government was attempting to silence him because he is critical of the Governor.
Contrary to the assertions made by Comrade Esinrogunjo’s party members, an investigation conducted by this medium revealed that his arrest is unrelated to politics. The Kwara State government, alleged to be involved in this situation, had no role in his arrest by the police. Instead, the Kwara PDP chieftain was arrested for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl twice in his office in the Geri Alimi area of Ilorin.
The police took Hon. Musibau Esinrogunjo into custody from his residence few days ago, following a report filed with the intelligence security agency by a human rights organization. According to the report, “A 15-year-old girl was found in a distressed state in the Olorunsho area.
“Our interactions with her revealed that she had been unlawfully and sexually abused on two occasions by Musibau Esinrogunjo in his office along Geri Alimi. She reported seeing blood on the first occasion and stated that he intimidated her into silence, promising to make her one of his wives.”
The police are currently investigating the matter. Upon the investigation completion of the investigation, he will be arraigned in court.
