The Edo State Government has announced a strategic partnership with the Nigeria Police Force to intensify the fight against cultism and drug abuse among young people across the state.
This was disclosed by Alex Aarebamen, Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties to Governor Monday Okpebholo, in a statement issued on Saturday following his visit to the police headquarters in Abuja. Aarebamen was received by Deputy Inspector General of Police, Frank Mba.
During the visit, Aarebamen officially introduced Project RISE—Resist Initiation, Secure Education—to the police, seeking institutional support for the initiative, which aims to tackle youth-related social vices such as cultism, drug abuse, and delinquency.
Describing the engagement as both “fruitful and encouraging,” Aarebamen noted that DIG Mba gave full endorsement to the project, describing it as a timely intervention for redirecting at-risk youth away from criminal activity.
“DIG Mba expressed his full support and applauded Project RISE as a commendable initiative,” Aarebamen said.
“He highlighted the importance of proactive strategies in safeguarding the future of Nigerian youths and commended Governor Okpebholo for his leadership and commitment to youth development.”
Project RISE, Aarebamen explained, is a central component of the state government’s broader youth development strategy. The programme offers educational alternatives, mentorship, and advocacy support for vulnerable youths, especially in high-risk communities.
“The project aims to provide young people with the tools, guidance, and opportunities they need to resist negative influences and make meaningful contributions to society,” he said.
He stressed that through strong collaborations like the one with the police, Edo State is laying the groundwork for a safer and more empowered youth population.
“With the right support, we can create a future where our youths are not only free from crime and violence but also equipped to lead productive lives,” he added.
The partnership underscores the Edo State Government’s commitment to fostering a secure, supportive, and growth-oriented environment for its younger generation.
