Kwara-based Elites Network for Sustainable Development (ENetSuD), an acclaimed anti-corruption and civil society organisation, has signed a deal with the state’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but concealed the details.
This was revealed to this medium by a reliable source who preferred not to be mentioned in this news piece.
According to him, a senior officer of ENetSuD and a prominent member of the PDP were spotted at the book launch of the the organisation’s Deputy Coordinator Comrade Mashood Lanrey Osho in late December, where the former and the latter reached an agreement.
Professor Abubakar O. Suleiman who is the Director-General, National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) and 2027 Governorship hopeful who signed the agreement on behalf of the state’s PDP while briefing the former Senate President Bukola Saraki in Abuja on Thursday said the agreement is in the best interest of the state and for nation building.
The agreement which was signed shortly after the book launch had senior officer of ENetSuD, DG NILDS and some state executives of the PDP in attendance.
However, PDP is not the first political party ENetSuD would sign a deal with. Weeks into the 2023 general elections, it signed a N26.5m MoU with the governorship candidate of Young Progressives Party (YPP), Alh Waziri Yakubu Gobir.
ENetSuD and YPP muted on the agreement until well-meaning Kwarans asked them to explain the MoU. They would later claim it was meant to monitor the activities of the state government.
The recent ENetSuD’s deal with the PDP has resulted in crisis within the party as prominent stakeholders like former Governor AbdulFatah Ahmed, Mohammed Zakari, Ibrahim Bio, Bolaji Abdullahi, Abubakar Amuda Kanike, Gbenga Makanjuola others consider it as a tacit endorsement for Abubakar’s 2027 Governorship bid.
Some PDP stakeholders have said the agreement calls for concerns since all parties involved have decided to say nothing about it. They have resulted to asking what the deal is about?
